About us
We do not grow tea or make tea. We simply want to show you the rare things this island produces.
Why this site exists
For most days of the year, Taiwan's mid-elevation mountains sit inside cloud. Moist air climbs the steep slopes, cools, condenses, and stays at that height — a cloud forest belt.
Only about 1% of the world's forest can be called cloud forest. Taiwan's terrain rises thousands of metres over a very short horizontal distance, and that has kept the belt intact.
Taiwan's high-mountain tea grows inside it. Cloud filters part of the sunlight, the day-night temperature gap widens, the bush grows slowly — less of what makes tea harsh, more of what makes it come back sweet. That returning sweetness is what the land gives.
We set down the origin, elevation, fermentation and roast of 107 teas, one by one, so that when you taste that sweetness you know where it came from.
Where the data comes from
Tea attributes are based on public data from the Tea Research and Extension Station and regional farmers' associations. Price ranges come from what products actually sell for, not from vendor quotes. Solar terms follow the Central Weather Administration. Venue addresses and coordinates come from the Ministry of Agriculture's travel portal. Where no published coordinates exist, the pin is labelled approximate rather than faked.
How we make money
Affiliate links. The buying links to Shopee and momo earn us a commission from the retailer when you order through them, at no extra cost to you.
If you would like to work with us on introducing a tea region, write to taiwanteamap@gmail.com.
What we will not do
This site is here to introduce Taiwanese tea, the culture around it, and the objects it is made with. Where we check and find something is not made in Taiwan, we take it down — better to list one fewer item than to let a reader assume it is Taiwanese.
