Cultivars and characterWenshan Baozhong is jade-green, tightly twisted with a natural curl; the liquor is a lively honeyed green, the aroma forward, the taste sweet and round. Sanxia's Haishan teas include Baozhong, Longjing and Biluochun — the unfermented ones are rare in Taiwan. Shimen brought in the Yingzhi Hongxin cultivar for its Tieguanyin: rich and smooth, with a faint fruit acidity and a scent of its own.

You can be standing in pouchong country a little over an hour after leaving Taipei Main Station. Pinglin has the museum, the river and trails you can finish in an afternoon; Shiding’s old street is built out over the water; Sanxia makes a green tea unlike anywhere else. All three work as day trips.
